Reach Out to Asia: Youth Service Club Leadership Training

Location, Tuesday, March 2, 2023

January has been a busy month in our classroom. We finished a unit about the Gingerbread Man stories and wrote our own version called Gingerbread Doggy Loose in McDonalds. It is a creative and funny version and is available for reading outside of our classroom.

We also finished a unit on Martin Luther King Junior and wrote our own dreams for the world. Some examples: I have a dream that no one would smoke. ~Nicholas

I have a dream that everyone would have a home. ~Olivia

I have a dream that people have enough water. ~Savannah

I have a dream for people to not kill people for no reason. ~Eli

I have a dream that everyone could build a snowman. ~Adrienne

I have a dream that everyone would be friends. ~Aubrey

We finished our unit by singing a rap in front of the school. What an amazing job done by all!

News from Mrs. Magoon's 1st Grade Oak Family

Wow! I can't believe it's already January. The year is truly flying by! So far this year, our class has worked very hard on becoming independent readers, writers and thinkers. We've also worked hard on our classroom and school-wide HOPES by being Helpful, Open-minded, Polite,Engaged, and Safe each and every day they are here. Right now we are trying really hard to earn "glocks" (glass rocks) for showing positive learning behaviors throughout the day so we can feel good about ourselves and earn choice time and prizes. For Math, right now we are finishing a unit in geometry about two-dimensional shapes by sorting and classifying them by their attributes. We are also diving into subtraction and will be working on fractions soon. We also continue to practice counting, adding, subtracting and memorizing our addition facts daily. We are reading "every day" in our "good fit" books in order to build our fluency, accuracy and comprehension. In Science, we've learned a TON about animals and their adaptations. We've also read a lot of books about how animals survive in winter. Next week, we will be jumping into physical science and how light and sound helps us with communication. Our writing skills are improving dramatically!! Thanks to our Fundations program and "Echo the Owl," we are learning how good writer's form and write letters and words correctly, use capital letters and punctuation marks correctly, and write full sentences using a lot of detail. I can't even begin to tell you all how very proud I am of your children and the hard work and effort they are putting into their learning. I'm also so very thankful for all of the support you have given me and our class. By helping your children read their "good fit" books at home at night and helping them practice their sight words, they are "flying" through first grade! I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It’s easy.

Second grade is currently working on researching and making our own non fiction books about planets. The focus on this is using non fiction text features to organize our research. We will also be constructing the solar system and hanging it in the gym for the Second grade chorus concert.
